Handle real dinosaur bone, look at local fossils and bring along fossils for identification.
Hi, I'm Christine, the Curator of Natural History at Portsmouth Museum.
My first project is to deliver a two-year HLF funded project called 'Wild About Portsmouth'. The aim of this project is increase the profile of the Natural History collections. Many specimens are on display at Cumberland House at Southsea, but even more are held in store at Hilsea and Portsmouth Museum.
I'm hoping to involve lots of people in this project - families with young children, students, artists, retired people, and specialists - anyone with an interest or would like to gain an interest in Natural History.
Activities might include workshops, special events, talks, becoming a volunteer and working with the collections - lots of ways to get involved.
At the moment very little is known about the Natural History collections. There are about 114,000 natural history specimens - insects, plants, taxidermy, shells and fossils. Over the next two years, I am hoping to discover some of the stories behind these collections.
