Handle real dinosaur bone, look at local fossils and bring along fossils for identification.
An intriguing find from the geology collections held at Cumberland House.
This section of a core sample from the Oil Bore at Paulsgrove was taken from ¼ mile (402m) down. In 1936 a test bore was drilled near the chalk pit at Paulsgrove by the D’Arcy Exploration Company to locate oil thought to have been trapped in the folded rocks of Portsdown Hill.
The bore was drilled down to 6556 feet (1998m) but didn’t locate enough oil to make drilling profitable.
